Avery, 2017. Pigmented Urethane foam and plywood. 16’ x 14’. In the backyard of 241 E. Home St, Long Beach, California, around twenty years ago I was part of a group of neighborhood friends who played a prank on Avery, another friend. We spent a whole day digging a massive hole in the backyard of the home across the street from his. It was approximately ten feet square, and three feet deep, filled completely with muddy water and made to look as if it was a solid, dry surface. Since Avery was the first to arrive (this was our hangout pad), we asked him to grab a shovel placed in the center. He went for it, and completely sunk into thick mud with his Sunday church clothes on.
